Carlyn Iverson
For more than 40 years, Carlyn Iverson has built a career at the intersection of art and science.
After earning a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Minnesota, she began as a medical illustrator at University of Minnesota Hospitals, launching a 20-year career creating illustrations for more than 200 medical and college textbooks. Her experience also includes work as a fabrication artist, climate data visualizer, and medical illustrator for organizations including NOAA and UWorld.
As owner of Absolute Science Studios, Carlyn has completed projects for organizations such as National Geographic, the Charles Darwin Foundation, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, where she created over 200 illustrations for MNAqua, an award-winning freshwater ecology curriculum for Minnesota schools. In 2015, she directed the design and supervised the build-out of the Charles Darwin Foundation Exhibition Hall in the Galápagos Islands.
Additional clients include the National Institutes of Health, the University of Vermont, Lindblad Expeditions, and the Raptor Center of Minnesota, the Raptor Center of MN, University of Michigan, MN DNR, New Mexico Wildlife and Fisheries, the Minnesota Zoological Gardens, The Alaska Raptor Center and many others.
Her expertise includes scientific illustration, exhibit design and fabrication, 2D animation with audio integration, and 3D modeling using ZBrush and other digital tools.
The latest project involves the sculpting and production of seven bronze animals in a realistic style for the Minnesota Zoo during 2026.
